Position Summary:

Accountant – Fixed Assets, Accounting & Finance Department (Indianapolis)

The Fixed Asset Accountant will play a crucial role to ensure all assets acquired by Heartland are recorded and treated appropriately in accordance with US GAAP. To give you an idea of team structure, you will work on a team in the Accounting & Finance group, reporting to the Manager of Capital Accounting.

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Administer the company’s fixed asset policy across all departments.
  • Issue capital expenditure purchase orders via an automated system.
  • Record assets in a fixed asset management system in accordance with US GAAP
  • Calculate and record all associated amortization and depreciation of assets.
  • Maintenance of assets in the fixed asset management system to ensure correct tax reporting.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all associated capital expenditure accounts including variance analysis.
  • Analyze data surrounding capital expenditure spending.
  • Audit all requests for accuracy and adherence to the company policy and implement any needed changes.
  • Recommend and assist in process improvements to identify efficiency gains that impact not only the department, but the supported offices.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to go into the offiice at least one day a week.
  • Completion of one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
    • Associate’s degree in accounting with 1+ year experience
    • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • In-depth understanding of US GAAP
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – ability to identify discrepancies, perform research, and work toward resolution.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

Ability to travel to the Heartland Dental Support Office in Indianapolis, IN for training and on an as-needed basis.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Resides in the Indianapolis, IN or Effingham, IL area. The guidelines for returning to in-person work are still in process.

 

  • Experience working with balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience with a larger GL system is preferred but not mandatory.

Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel experience
